'Global Exam Day' for Meeting Planners
October 20, 2009
In response to international demand, the Convention Industry Council (CIC) announced it will hold its Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam outside of North America during its first ever CMP Global Exam Day.
Taking place Feb. 20, 2010, with testing in five international locations—including Mexico, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa, and Italy—CIC says the inaugural CMP Global Exam Day "will allow meeting professionals from around the world to finally earn the coveted CMP designation, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate key understanding and excellence in the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry."
"The demand for the CMP designation from the global meetings community has been overwhelming, and it is our goal to provide as many opportunities as possible to meet this demand," CIC Chief Operating Officer Karen Kotowski, CAE, CMP, said in a statement. "To show our commitment to global expansion, CIC has designated Feb. 20, 2010, as the CMP Global Exam Day and selected five international exam sites. We know this global momentum will continue to grow to many more exam locations worldwide."
"This is an exciting time for the CMP program as international awareness continues to heighten," says Mexico Tourism Board Regional Director Eduardo Chaillo, CMM, CMP, CMP International Committee chair. "There is unlimited potential for growth of the CMP designation internationally. The CMP Global Exam Day shows the strong commitment by CIC to bring this critical education to the global market and continue to develop our profession."
CMP certification is a two-step process consisting of an application phase followed by a written examination. In order to qualify to take the exam, candidates must have at least three years of employment in the meetings industry and must "demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings."
The application deadline for CMP Global Exam Day is Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.
