EIBTM Looks to Meetings' Future
September 23, 2009
Annual event to focus on Gen Y engagement, technology strategies
By Stacy Straczynski

The meetings industry is setting its sights on the future—and the meeting planners of the future. EIBTM, an annual global meeting industry event, announced today its increasing commitment to fostering Generation Y.

The three-day event, being held Dec 1-3 in Barcelona, is partnering with ICAA to offer educational sessions dedicated to increasing the engagement of Gen Y attendees in conferences and events, with a special focus on how technology can be utilized in this effort. EIBTM will hold a daily Technology Hour, in which industry experts will share insights into how professionals can integrate technology into their meetings. Seminars include "Motivating Generation Y" led by Rob Davidson, senior lecturer in business travel and tourism at the University of Westminster, and "Social Media for Meetings" hosted by Corbin Ball, CMP for Corbin Ball Associates.

"This initiative, together with our other seminars dedicated to Generation Y, is all about the future of the industry which relies on young professionals to make their mark. With ICCA we are committed long term to help educate and develop the obvious talent that exists around the world," said Mandy Torrens, EIBTM exhibition director.

Additionally, EIBTM and ICAA are searching for 20 professionals under the age of 30 to join the annual Forum for Young Professionals, will be held Sept 28-Dec 1 in Barcelona. Application and program information is available at eibtm.com.
