2010 Top 125 Winners
February 09, 2010
Training magazine Ranks 2010 Top 125 Organizations That Excel at Employee Development and Inducts Two Companies Into Its Top 10 Hall of Fame
New York, NY (February 2, 2010)—Training magazine revealed the 2010 Training Top 125 winners and their rankings. Now in its 10th year, the Training Top 125 is the only report that ranks companies unsurpassed in harnessing human capital. Winners received their crystal awards last night at the Training Top 125 gala, sponsored by K Alliance, Kaplan IT Learning, The Ken Blanchard Companies, NIIT, Saba, and Turning Technologies. The gala was held during the Training 2010 Conference and Expo at the San Diego Convention Center.
Earlier that day, Training editors recognized innovative and successful learning and development programs and practices. Best Practice and Outstanding Training Initiative winners received crystal trophies at the Training magazine booth in the expo hall. They were:
Best Practices Farmers Insurance: Laboratory Learning Harrah's Entertainment: Entertaining Your Best PricewaterhouseCoopers: 101: PWC Internship Experience Sun Microsystems: Social Learning Exchange (SLX) Wells Fargo: Private Bank Foundation Program
Outstanding Training Initiatives DaVita: CQI Fast Track NewYork-Presbyterian: Patient Safety Fridays Orkin: My Sister's Keeper U.S. Navy: Game-Based Casualty Response Training System Vanguard: Vanguard Learning Portal
During the gala, Training also inducted two companies into the Top 10 Hall of Fame. General Mills and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals qualified for the honor by being in the Top 10 of Training's Top 125 companies for at least four consecutive years. They will remain in the Hall of Fame for a period of no less than three years and no more than five years after which they may reapply for Top 125 awards consideration. General Mills is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of consumer favorites such as Cheerios, Wheaties, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Haagen-Dazs, and Nature Valley. The company believes building great brands and great talent go hand-in-hand, and has a consistent track record of growing employees through training and development that is business grounded, career-long learning, and engrained and measured. Last year, Wyeth merged with Pfizer Inc.—a Top 10 Hall of Fame member since 2008—forming one of the world's largest research-based biomedical and pharmaceutical companies. Together, these two Hall of Famers will continue to build upon the dynamic strengths and strong foundations that have helped to distinguish both Wyeth and Pfizer as leaders in learning and development.
General Mills and Wyeth Pharmaceutical's induction created two opportunities for other Top 125 companies to move into the Top 10 in 2010 and beyond. This year, 36 newcomers cracked the Top 125 list, including six in the Top 50.
Training also recognized the following Top 125 companies for receiving the highest scores in three application categories (companies in the Top 5 were not eligible for awards recognition in this area) and overall qualitatively:
Top Training Programs/Scope Score
Cerner Corporation McDonald's USA, LLC Wequassett Resort and Golf Club
Top Evaluation/Business Metric

"The Training Top 125 companies not only provided stellar training in the face of continued economic adversity, but detailed their efforts in our most comprehensive and rigorous Top application to date," said Joyceann Cooney-Garippa, Training's group publisher and show director. "Congratulations to all the companies named to the 2010 Training Top 125 and to the newest inductees to the Top 10 Hall of Fame, and kudos to the other Hall of Famers for their continued dedication to learning and development excellence."
The Top 125 includes ranking based on myriad benchmarking statistics such as total training budget; percentage of payroll; number of training hours per employee program; goals, evaluation, measurement, and workplace surveys; hours of training per employee annually; and detailed formal programs.
The Top 125 ranking is determined by assessing a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the scope of development programs, and how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.
Companies that wish to be considered for Top 125 ranking complete a detailed application, which is scored both quantitatively by an outside research and statistical data company and qualitatively by Training magazine editors and Top 10 Hall of Fame representatives.
