Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello Opens New $6.2 Million Meeting Facility
November 04, 2009
By Donna M. Airoldi
The Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, a ruggedly luxurious retreat located in a forest, halfway between Montreal and Ottawa in Canada’s Québec province, has opened its new $6.2 million conference and meeting facility, adding 6,000 square feet to the previous 11,300 square feet of meeting, convention and event space.
The free-standing addition is located at the east end of the resort and linked to the main building through an underground tunnel. The facility’s architecture and interiors—featuring a country-chic décor and floor-to-ceiling fireplace—were designed to complement that of the 211-room hotel—which has been described as a “log castle.”
The meeting space includes the dividable Outaouais ballroom, which can seat 350 people for dinner, 500 for a reception. A terrace overlooks the Ottawa River and accommodates 350 people for a reception.
“This beautiful facility opens the door to many new meetings, conventions and social functions that we simply could not accommodate in the past. We remain confident that this new addition will help us forge ahead and we are excited about introducing it to our valued event planners,” said Werner Sapp, general manager, in a statement.
Due to its secluded location along the Ottawa River, the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello offers a host of activities for guests. In addition to the requisite golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool and spa, there’s fishing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, dog-sledding, tubing, even curling. The hotel also is home to the only Land Rover Driving School in Canada.
