Grow Lake Tahoe
September 26, 2008
One perennial incentive destination is seeing some new faces.
By Leo Jakobson

The most important new property coming online in 2009 in Lake Tahoe is The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe, opening late next year. The 173-room, ski-in, ski-out property will be the first five-star resort in the already upscale destination, which was named the top destination in the U.S. by TripAdvisor this spring. The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe, will include a 20,000-square-foot spa with 16 treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor treatment rooms a private pool and whirlpool tubs.

The new five-star resort is already providing the destination as a whole a bump in credibility with the highest-end incentive planners, according to Jason Neary, director of conference sales of the North Lake Tahoe Visitors' Bureau. And that will benefit the region as a whole, he adds.

Several other properties have recently completed extensive renovations, including The Resort at Squaw Creek and the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe.
