Orlando Adds 1,500 Hotel Rooms and First Waldorf Astoria Outside NYC
October 07, 2009
By Donna M. Airoldi

The Bonnet Creek development in Orlando opened on Oct. 1, adding nearly 1,500 new hotel rooms, 150,000 square feet of meeting space and a touch of New York City to the popular destination.

Hilton Hotels Corporation is the company behind Bonnet Creek, which is located on 482 acres of land surrounded on three sides by the Walt Disney World Resort and features two properties, including the first Waldorf Astoria property to open outside of the Big Apple. Its newly created luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria Collection, is based, naturally, on the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

The 497-room Waldorf Astoria Orlando was built from the ground up and includes 169 suites, executive suites and two presidential suites; marble bathrooms; five restaurants, including a Peacock Alley; a swimming pool with private cabanas and a recreation pool; and an all-digital business center, with 24-hour workstations where guests can fax, copy, print and scan documents.

For groups, there’s 28,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and pre-function areas, including an 8,100-square-foot ballroom, two boardrooms, 15 meeting rooms and outdoor venues.

The nearby 1,000-room Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek includes 36 suites and two presidential suites, seven restaurants and 122,000 square feet of meeting space, comprised of two ballrooms, 42 meeting rooms, two boardrooms and outdoor venues.

Available to guests of both properties are the 7,108-yard Rees Jones-designed championship golf course at the adjacent Waldorf Astoria Golf Club; the 24,000-square-foot Waldorf Astoria Spa by Guerlain, with 23 indoor and six outdoor treatment rooms; and a 4,000-square-foot fitness center.

The property also features 125 acres of state protected waterways and wetlands that are home to turkeys, foxes, pigs and 100-plus migratory birds.
