Loews Miami Beach Completes $50M Renovation, Extends Meetings Offer
February 03, 2010
By Donna M. Airoldi

Redesigned guestrooms, bathrooms, lobby, retail spaces and porte cochere—guests will find all this and more when they next stay at the Loews Miami Beach hotel, which last week put the final touches on its $50 million renovation, just in time for this week’s Super Bowl Sunday.

“This is the best hotel we’ve ever renovated,” says Loews Hotels CEO Jonathan Tisch. “We want to keep the Loews Miami Beach in the spotlight for South Beach and the Loews Hotel brand and to do so, we decided to give it a facelift—before it needed one—and enhance some of the hotel’s strongest features to make an even better guest experience, one we can emulate at other properties.”

Room and Retail Upgrades

All 790 guestrooms and bathrooms now meld the hotel’s Art Deco heritage with South Beach flair, using lime greens, pale blues, mushroom grays, chocolate browns and whites, along with chrome metals and maple. Hand-designed headboards utilize a tropical art deco-inspired patterned fabric, with cream, pale blue and yellow colors. The bathrooms have been made to feel more open with the addition of frosted sliding glass doors, white counters and sand-colored marble floors.

RTKL, based in Miami, FL, handled the guestroom, bathroom and hallway redesign as well as the porte cochere, which now features a cascading water wall to create a more dramatic sense of arrival.

DEMA Architecture and Design opened up the lobby area, removing a spiral staircase to allow for better flow of guest entrances and exits. There’s also now a 1,007-gallon, 20-foot long L-shaped aquarium featuring 57 fish of 13 different varieties as well as a Bamboo Shark, Honeycomb Eel and a small ray. All fish are collected locally and a marine biologist from Living Color Enterprises oversees the maintenance of the aquarium.

Adults can splurge at the boutique Splash, which carries Ike Behar, Robert Graham, Trina Turk and Lacoste, along with traditional toiletry and cosmetics items. Kids (and the kid in every adult) can indulge their sweet tooth at new ice cream shop SoBe Scoops, which uses Häagen-Dazs ice cream and organic flavors made onsite with ingredients from local purveyor Paradise Farms Organic. Sushi SoBe, Emeril’s Miami Beach restaurant and additional food outlets remain unchanged.
