Two Web Resources Give Planners Venue, Supplier Listings and Reviews
June 30, 2009
Two Web portals have debuted, one focused on green meetings in its product and supplier directory and the other likening itself as a TripAdvisor for group venues where planners can supply user reviews.

The Green Meeting Industry Council and Web portal PlannerWire have formed a Website containing a directory of green meetings venues, products, and services. The site, www.greenmeetingsdirectory.com, has video and text listings, product and service offerings, and contact information for GMIC members who join the directory. The directory is available to destinations, hotels and resorts, vendors, and other service providers that are GMIC members and wish to list their offerings.

“All directory listings are members of the GMIC, which requires its members to sign a code of conduct about their commitment to sustainable practices,” said GMIC Executive Director Tamara Kennedy-Hill. The directory will have a rating and comment field for planners to submit feedback on products and services, thus “ensuring that any green claims are authentically communicated,” she said.

The Green Meetings Directory is intended to be a one-stop resource for planners who are searching for green destinations, products, and services. It is searchable by category, as well as by company name or worldwide location.

Meanwhile, another Web resource has popped up, offering independent reviews of event venues and suppliers written by planners. ReviewEvents.com went live with a database of 12,000 conference, meeting, and event venues around the world, plus suppliers of AV, team-building, and corporate entertainment, according to the site.

The Website offers “event planners reassurance when deciding which venues and suppliers to use,” said ReviewEvents.com Managing Director Sarah Crysell. “ReviewEvents.com is designed to do for events what the likes of TripAdvisor have achieved for consumer travel,” added James Thornton, brand manager.

At the site, venue and supplier searches are automatically linked to other options, such as the “Nearby Venues & Suppliers” feature. This lists all companies within a five-mile radius, for example. The site is also said to offer RFP services, though no details were given.
