Popular iPod Nano MP3 Player Adds Video Capability, Retains Price
October 14, 2009
By Donna M. Airoldi

Apple introduced improvements to each of its three iPod products last month, but none with as many changes as the nano, one of the world’s most popular music players, which has an added video camera, microphone and speaker. Music lovers can now shoot video wherever they are, view it on their iPod nano, and use their computers to easily transfer their videos to YouTube and other social media sites.

In addition, the nano now features an ultra-thin and sleek design with a larger 2.2-inch color display and polished aluminum and glass enclosure, a built-in FM radio with live pause and iTunes Tagging, as well as a built-in pedometer.

Live pause lets iPod nano users pause and resume playing their favorite FM radio shows. iTunes Tagging allows users who hear a song they like to simply tag it, and then preview and purchase that song when they sync to iTunes. The pedometer, added as the device is so often used during workouts, can keep track of steps taken and calories burned.

The device provides up to 24 hours of music playback or five hours of video playback on a single charge. The 8GB model holds up to 2,000 songs, 7,000 photos, eight hours of video and seven hours of captured video; and the 16GB model holds up to 4,000 songs, 14,000 photos, 16 hours of video and 14 hours of captured video.

The iPod nano 8GB model is available for $149 and the 16GB model for $179, and comes in nine colors including silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange, yellow, red and pink. Models in silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange and pink can be purchased from manufacturers representative Incentive Concepts or from Apple's own corporate gifts and rewards site.

The product requires a Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later and iTunes 9; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3) or later and iTunes 9.
