China’s economy is on a fast rebound, at least compared to that of the United States, which means meetings and incentives in the country will likely be on the rise again soon. To better service and educate this market, the China Incentive Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM) announced at its 2009 show a China Meetings Week, dedicated to the meetings and incentive industry, to lead next year’s event.
“CIBTM’s aim is to be the driving force behind the growth of the meetings industry throughout China,” said CIBTM event director Graeme Barnett, adding that the recent show revealed that exhibitors, buyers and trade visitors were “thirsty for knowledge of the sector and international business practices, which have resulted in a record attendance for the professional education program.”
Attendance at CIBTM 2009—which took place Sept. 8-10 in Beijing at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC)—was 35 percent larger than the last CIBTM, held in 2007, according to show organizers. The event is co-hosted and supported by the Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA).
China Meetings Week will focus on education and learning, knowledge sharing and best practices for both inbound and outbound MICE business. Organizers plan to work with leading industry associations, including Meeting Professionals International (MPI), International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) and the Society of Incentive Travel Executives (SITE), to create a diverse and rich program of professional education activities.
CIBTM 2010 will take place Sept. 7-9 at the CNCC in Beijing.
