Billboard is taking steps to stay on top of the increasing digital music market with the recent launch of its Billboard Music Rewards Program.
The Web-based service, powered by Puretracks, a digital music solutions provider, is an easy-to-use redemption program that allows incentive recipients to redeem songs without needing to download any type of prior software. The music codes can be issued via in-pack/on-pack as a purchasing incentive, via e-mail or as branded gift cards to further market the parent company or brand. Award recipients then enter their code online and make their music selections from over 3.4 million tracks of both major and indie labels.
"In the promotional space, digital music is a really relevant and flexible incentive product that can be highly customized to reach a broad demographic," says Kira Meeker, director of sales at Puretracks. "It takes the physical to digital. And because it takes people online it enables the brand to identify their consumer and collect valuable customer data [for ongoing marketing efforts]."
What distinguishes the platform from other online download services is its potential for customization. Companies can choose to keep the Billboard branded or they can design the site to suit their needs in a variety of ways—including a branded landing page, music code generation in any song quantity and customer service—to deliver consumers a seamless marketing message. The online platform is compatible with PC, Mac and Linux systems and it automatically downloads selections to users' iTunes or Windows Media Player libraries. Gift card and promotion codes are available in any song denomination—such as one, two, 10 or even 100 songs—which allows for scalable programs, says Meeker.
Additionally, Billboard offers billboardcanciones.com for those looking to connect with the growing Latino market segments. The site not only features the full library from billboardgiftcard.com, but also grants access to over 100,000 Latin tracks.
Billboard, Incentive's sister publication under the Nielsen Business Media umbrella, offers in-depth music business news and trends, and offers access to digial music, videos and business tools.
