American Express and United Way Team Up for Charity Gift Card
November 11, 2009
By Donna M. Airoldi

Companies and nonprofit organizations have long teamed up to give consumers an easy way to buy goods and do good at the same time. The latest to join forces is American Express and United Way, with the United Way Charity Gift Card, introduced just in time for the gift-giving holiday season.

For every card sold between now and Oct. 31, 2010, American Express will donate the $3.95 purchase fee (up to $250,000 total) to United Way, an organization dedicated to improving lives by addressing education, income and health needs within communities nationwide.

The United Way Charity Gift Card from American Express comes in denominations of $25, $50, $100 and $200. The card currently is available for purchase only online at www.americanexpress.com/gift. American Express gift card fee promotion code discounts will not apply to this card.

Last month American Express announced it had eliminated all after-purchase fees on its gift cards, including those for activation, checking a balance, monthly servicing and card replacement.
