Westin Hotels & Resorts will open its first hotel in Mississippi in early 2017, it announced yesterday. Located in the state's capital city, Jackson, it will span nine floors with 205 guest rooms, a bistro and wine bar, a fitness studio with an indoor pool, a 6,000-square-foot spa, and 12,000 square feet of meeting space.
"Introducing Westin to the state of Mississippi has been a long time coming, and we couldn't think of a better city to do it in than Jackson," said Bob Jacobs, vice president, brand management, Sheraton & Westin North America. "The Westin Jackson will serve as a calm oasis in this vibrant city, offering guests and locals alike a respite from the rigors of travel."
It's hoped that the hotel -- a $60 million public-private development -- will help increase travel and tourism in downtown Jackson.
"After six years of conception and planning, we are very proud to celebrate this milestone," said Joseph Simpson, managing partner for Jackson-based Capital Hotel Associates, the hotel's owner. "The Westin Jackson will be the catalyst for future growth and projects here in downtown Jackson."
