Sonesta Hotels & Resorts has an elegant outpost in San Francisco after bringing an iconic Union Square property into the fold.

The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel dates to 1915 and features an interior renovated by Philippe Starck and a furniture collection including pieces from Ray and Charles Eames, Salvador Dali, and Rene Magritte.

Located between the Financial District and the South of Market neighborhood, it is just steps from Union Square's shopping and convenient to many top Internet firms' offices.

The Clift's 372 guest rooms range from studio suites to a full apartment decorated as a turn-of-the-century home with a modern touch, all with state-of-the-art entertainment centers. It offers 12,524 square feet of meeting space, including outdoor terraces.

Dining venues include the Velvet Room and the Redwood Room, a Starck-designed restaurant paneled in the wood of a single redwood tree. The Living Room lounge is decorated in the style of an English gentleman's club.

"Words cannot express how excited I am to welcome The Clift to the Royal Sonesta portfolio," said Carlos Flores, president and CEO of Sonesta International Hotels Corporation in a statement. "As a native born Californian, I have admired The Clift as long as I can remember; it's an institution. I am thrilled to add San Francisco to our growing list of Sonesta destinations."
