Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has selected satellite television provider DIRECTV to be its preferred video and audio provider in the United States, it announced yesterday in partnership with AT&T, DIRECTV's owner. The collaboration provides Starwood's guests with expanded in-room entertainment options, including new access to DIRECTV's NFL SUNDAY TICKET, programming for the four major sports leagues, and nearly 100 HD channels, not to mention select DVR capabilities.
"Our work with Starwood will open up more TV channel options for hotels, improving the in-room entertainment experience for guests," said Eric Boyer, senior vice president of AT&T GigaPower, Commercial and Connected Communities. "We're providing properties and their guests with the best programming options available in the U.S."
Sheraton is the first of Starwood's 10 brands to leverage the DIRECTV partnership: It will begin upgrading its HDTV experiences and bringing new channels to its U.S. hotels immediately, it said.
