of an innovative new collaboration between the San Francisco Travel Association and Lyft, an Uber competitor known for the signature pink mustaches affixed to its drivers' cars. The first-of-its-kind partnership between a destination marketing organization (DMO) and a ridesharing app became official this week, the organizations announced Tuesday.
"As one of the most innovative destinations in the world, we want to make sure visitors have efficient and convenient transportation options such as Lyft to navigate and travel throughout the city," Joe D'Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel, said in a statement.
According to San Francisco Travel, partnering with San Francisco-based Lyft will benefit visitors by giving them a convenient transportation option. It will benefit the city, meanwhile, by increasing visitors' overall economic impact on the destination, supporting local drivers and making it easier for visitors to access businesses and attractions in less trafficked parts of San Francisco.
As part of the new partnership, San Francisco Travel and Lyft will collaborate on custom promotions and offers for visiting meeting and convention attendees. San Francisco Travel also will offer an ongoing "Ride About Town" credit of up to $10 for first-time Lyft users.
"San Francisco is the city Lyft calls home, and we're excited to partner with the San Francisco Travel Association to make it convenient and affordable for visitors to get around," said David Estrada, Lyft's vice president of government relations. "Everyone in a city benefits when it's easy to access transportation options like Lyft, including businesses across the bay. Drivers often share their favorite restaurant or other hidden gems with passengers -- helping travelers experience San Francisco through the eyes of a local."
