Kalahari Resorts and Conventions -- owner of waterpark resorts in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and Sandusky, OH -- has opened its newest resort, Kalahari Resorts Pocono Mountains, in Pocono Mountains, PA, it announced last week.
The property has 457 guest rooms, three full-service restaurants, a 100,000-square-foot waterpark, a seasonal outdoor waterpark, 6,000 square feet of retail space, a 30,000-square-foot family entertainment center, and a 100,000-square-foot convention center.
"Today is a big one for not only our company, but my family, as well," said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. "We have always dreamed of expanding to the East Coast, and there's no better way to do it than with our grandest resort to date in this historically prevalent tourist area."
An expansion of the African-themed resort already is underway. Scheduled fore completion in spring 2017, it will add 400 more guest rooms, increase the outdoor waterpark's size by two to three acres, and expand the indoor waterpark by 100,000 square feet, making Kalahari Resorts Pocono Mountains the country's largest indoor waterpark.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to bring the spirit of Africa to the Poconos," Nelson said. "We look forward to a successful property that will assist in boosting tourism in the area long term."
