The Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs, CO, will open Cloud Camp, a wilderness retreat on Colorado's Cheyenne Mountain, on Aug. 15, it announced this week.
Located 3,000 feet above The Broadmoor, at an elevation of 9,200 feet, Cloud Camp is situated on the historic 1924 site of Broadmoor founder Spencer Penrose's original Cheyenne Lodge. Overlooking Pikes Peak to the north and the Colorado Rockies to the west, it includes an 8,000-square-foot lodge and accommodations for up to 56 guests, including seven lodge guest rooms, 11 one- and two-bedroom cabins, and a special suite -- called the Fire Tower Suite -- located atop a historic Colorado fire tower.
"From its spectacular locale atop Cheyenne Mountain, to its inspiring culinary program, Cloud Camp is a truly unique experience for our guests," Cloud Camp General Manager Tina Harlow said in a statement. "Introducing the property to our growing Wilderness Experience portfolio, which also includes The Ranch at Emerald Valley, The Broadmoor's Fishing School and The Broadmoor's Fishing Camp, continues to define our commitment to offering exceptional, and varied, guest experiences."
During their stay, guests hike in the Pike National Forest, enjoy birding, photo safaris and rock art, as well as assist the chef each evening with the preparation of "Social Hour" hors d'oeuvres.
To arrive at Cloud Camp, guests check in at The Broadmoor and can choose between being transported to Cloud Camp in a four-wheel vehicle, on the back of a mule or by way of a guided three-hour hike.
