The Maldives is known for its world-famous dive sites. The Indian Ocean isn't the only thing visitors to the island nation can dive into, however. Thanks to a new Waldorf Astoria resort that's scheduled to open there in early 2019, Maldivian tourists also will be able to dive into luxury accommodations, fine dining, and memorable activities, Hilton Worldwide announced yesterday.

"We are thrilled to continue our luxury expansion in Asia by introducing Waldorf Astoria in one of the world's most sought-after destinations," said Guy Phillips, senior vice president of development, Asia & Australasia, Hilton. "With magnificent natural beauty and an amazing underwater world, the Maldives remains an inspirational choice for world travelers today."

Spanning three islands in the South Male Atoll, approximately 20 minutes from the Maldivian capital of Male, Waldorf Astoria Maldives will be Hilton's second hotel in the Maldives and its first new-build property there. Offerings will include 130 guest rooms; 10 dining outlets, including nine specialty restaurants; and a vast menu of activities, including water sports, excursions to island villages, learning local handicrafts, and watching cultural performances.

"Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts continues to deliver on its mission to be the world's fastest growing, most innovative luxury hotel brand, expanding its global footprint with landmark signings in iconic destinations," said John Vanderslice, global head, luxury and lifestyle brands, Hilton. "Waldorf Astoria Maldives will set a new standard for Maldivian luxury, offering global travelers first-class accommodations in a unique and inspirational environment where they can experience our bespoke … service, while enjoying an unforgettable getaway in the Indian Ocean."
