The Netherlands' first W hotel has opened in Amsterdam, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced last week.

Located behind the Royal Palace on Amsterdam's Dam Square, the highly anticipated W Amsterdam ultimately will have 238 guest rooms in two buildings. The first building -- Amsterdam's former Telephone Exchange -- has 172 guest rooms, which are currently accepting guests, as well as a rooftop lobby, lounge, and steakhouse, plus Amsterdam's first rooftop pool (pictured).

The second building, a former bank, will open early next year with an additional 66 guest rooms and suites, as well as a spa, fitness center, and exhibition gallery. It also houses the W Amsterdam's second restaurant, The Duchess, which opened in June.

Finally, the hotel also will offer approximately 1,300 square feet of meeting space.

"The long awaited and much anticipated opening of W Amsterdam brings a distinctive new take on hospitality to the heart of the city," said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader of W Hotels Worldwide. "Amsterdam has emerged as a world leader in design, music, and fashion, all of which have long been passions of W Hotels and our global travelers. As one of Europe's most popular destinations, we are excited to welcome guests and locals alike to an energetic space full of unexpected moments."
