Today, Stamford, CT-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., announced the debut of Sheraton Grand, a new premier tier that identifies exceptional properties within the global Sheraton hotel brand.

The first 10 properties to receive the designation span the globe, but are primarily located in the Asia-Pacific region, and by the end of 2016, Starwood hopes to have 50 newly designated Sheraton Grand properties worldwide. By 2017, that number is expected to grow to 100.

Sheraton Grand is one of many initiatives currently taking place as part of Sheraton 2020, Starwood's comprehensive plan designed to solidify Sheraton as a leading global hotel brand.

"Sheraton is Starwood's largest and most global brand, and as we continue our work to firmly keep Sheraton in the spotlight, we recognize the need to better match guest expectations for the brand around the world," said Adam Aron, interim Starwood CEO. "Sheraton Grand celebrates our standout hotels and helps us further reinforce Sheraton as a trusted voice in global travel."

Sheraton Grand properties include resorts, convention hotels, and urban properties with outstanding service and guest satisfaction, as well as dynamic guest rooms and public spaces. Upscale amenities, including restaurants, fitness centers, Sheraton Club lounges, and spas, as well was state-of-the-art meeting and event space, are also determining factors for the brand category.

"We expect many of our Sheraton hotels to achieve the Sheraton Grand designation, and we will work with our owners to open new Sheraton Grand hotels or renovate existing properties to ensure a consistent and exceptional experience in our new premier tier," said Dave Marr, global brand leader for Sheraton Hotels & Resorts. "The worldwide network of Sheraton Grand will promote growth and lure more high-end travelers for the Sheraton brand globally, and we look forward to welcoming 100 Sheraton Grand hotels by early 2017."

The first 10 Sheraton Grand hotels are:
Sheraton Grand Bangalore Hotel (India)
Sheraton Grand Beijing Dongcheng Hotel (China)
Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai (UAE)
Sheraton Grand Edinburgh Hotel (Scotland)
Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel & Resort (Brazil)
Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort (Japan)
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit (Thailand)
