The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company will soon open a new hotel in Melbourne, Australia's second largest city, it announced last week. Part of a new mixed-use development in Melbourne's central business district, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne will have 250 guest rooms.

"We believe Australia has plenty of opportunities in the tourism industry," said David Chiu, chairman of Fast Consortium, the project's Asian developer. "The country has many unique offerings which are driving the growth in tourist arrivals. We are delighted to bring this international luxury brand to ... Melbourne."

Although an opening date was not announced, construction is expected to commence early next year.
