Hilton Worldwide has launched a new program to help meeting professionals make their meetings healthier both for attendees and for the environment, it announced yesterday.

Called "Meet with a Purpose," the new program is based on feedback from customers and sales team members, who requested sustainable choices that could be integrated into events in order to enhance the meeting experience while also supporting companies' corporate responsibility goals.

The resulting initiative includes two components. The first, "Mindful Eating," encourages meeting professionals to reexamine event dining to minimize food waste and encourage healthy choices; specific solutions include portion control, sourcing locally, pre-plating salads, and establishing central water stations with reusable containers. The second, "Mindful Meeting," inspires meeting professionals to host more sustainable events by considering practices that are less resource-intensive. Solutions offered including paperless registration and turning off climate control when meeting rooms aren't in use.

"Today's meeting attendees seek greater meaning in their event experiences and expect event planners to consider the broader implications of the meeting itself," said Lesley Brasesco, Hilton Worldwide's managing director of sales effectiveness for the Americas. "Meet with Purpose offers meeting professionals a menu of options that make it easy to incorporate sustainable, impactful, and healthy choices that deliver on the broader corporate responsibility commitments of our customers and Hilton."
