Egypt's first Voco hotel will open in 2022 as part of a new mixed-use development near the Giza pyramid complex, on the outskirts of Cairo, InterContinental Hotels Group announced this week. Being built near the Grand Egyptian Museum and the main entrance of the pyramids, the property will have 230 guest rooms; multiple dining options, including a specialty restaurant and a poolside bar; an outdoor swimming pool; a health club and spa, and nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The larger development will include a high-end shopping mall.

"We are excited to be adding our newly launched brand to our Egypt portfolio," said Pascal Gauvin, IHG's managing director of India, the Middle East and Africa. "Cairo has always been a primary market for us, and we have maintained a strong presence in the city with over 2,000 rooms across three brands and a strong pipeline. We look forward to further catering to our guests, providing them with the freshness of a unique hotel with the guarantee of an upscale experience."

Added Ebrahim El Adawy, managing director of IHG's development partner, Arab International Tourism Investment Co., "We are proud to partner with a global player such as IHG to introduce their latest upscale offering to the Egyptian market. We are confident the brand's freshness, combined with the world-class experience of IHG and the fantastic location, will make Voco Giza Pyramids a popular choice amongst business and leisure travelers alike."

IHG launched the upscale Voco brand in June 2018. The portfolio will "combine the informality and charm of an individual hotel with the quality and reassurance of a global and respected brand." Properties will showcase "a bold, distinctive identity, informal service style and thoughtful touches," with three specific features in each property: a "Come On In" welcome experience that includes fast check-in with a locally inspired welcome treat; "Me Time" guest rooms that encourage guests to take a moment for themselves with amenities like plush bedding, rejuvenating aerated showers and Internet-connected smart TVs; and "Voco Life" bar and lounge spaces that infuse Voco hotels with a social vibe.

IHG plans to open more than 200 Voco hotels around the world over the next 10 years.
