To civilization at large, Greece is one of the oldest destinations on Earth. To Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, however, it's the newest: The luxury hotelier announced plans today to open its first Four Seasons Hotel there -- Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens -- in spring 2018.

Located in the seaside suburb of Vouliagmeni, approximately 16 miles south of Athens, the hotel will occupy the existing Astir Palace Resort, which consists of The Arion Hotel & Spa and The Nafsika Hotel, opened in 1967 and 1980, respectively. Currently undergoing a property-wide renovation and refurbishment, the redeveloped property will include approximately 300 rooms, suites, and luxury bungalows; a spa and recreational facilities; state-of-the-art meeting and event space; infinity pools and beaches; and a beachfront promenade.

"Astir Palace has always been a landmark destination of international stature, located in the Athenian Riviera, one of the most coveted areas in Greece. We are strongly committed to embrace its legacy and elevate Astir Palace to a world-class premium destination," said Stelios Koutsivitis, CEO of Astir Palace Vouliagmeni S.A., the hotel's owner, which has a massive redevelopment plan for the entire peninsula on which the hotel is located; in addition to renovating and re-launching the hotel, it plans to develop 13 residences, create a new park, significantly upgrade the local marina, and enhance the local beach, where plans include upgraded food-and-beverage outlets and improved public access of the Temple of Apollo archaeological zone.

Added Four Seasons President and CEO J. Allen Smith, "As one of Europe's most popular travel destinations, Greece has long been an area of interest for Four Seasons and we are pleased to mark our entry into this important market in partnership with Astir Palace Vouliagmeni S.A. The hotel's location offers a unique combination of seaside tranquility and easy accessibility to Athens' city center, making it an ideal destination for leisure and business travelers year round. We look forward to working with Astir Palace to introduce Four Seasons to Greece, creating a world-class hospitality experience characterized by product of the highest caliber and customized Four Seasons service."
