Companies in the U.S. are giving fewer corporate gifts, and less expensive corporate gifts this year than in 2011. That much is clear from the results of this year’s “Corporate Gift IQ” survey. The percentage of respondents who are using corporate and business gifts dropped to 64 percent from 75 percent in 2011.

Compared to last year, twice as many respondents say they are spending less on gifts this year (31.5 percent) rather than spending more (15.3 percent). Roughly the same was true last year. 

However, the number of companies giving gifts to customers and clients actually increased slightly, from approximately 67 percent to 71 percent. Gifts given to employees, prospects, stockholders, suppliers, and partners all decreased slightly. 

Gift cards remain the dominant type of business gift, used by nearly two-thirds of respondents. As in 2011, they were used twice as often as any other type of gift. 

Incentive’s “Corporate Gift IQ” survey had a total of 886 respondents drawn from readers of Incentive’s print magazine, various e-newsletters, and its website. The survey was conducted from Aug. 29 to Oct. 1, 2012.
