The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has published the sixth edition of its seminal meeting-planning resource, "Professional Meeting Management: A Guide to Meetings, Conventions, and Events," it announced this week.

A hardcover book first published in 1984, "Professional Meeting Management" is a reference publication for students in undergraduate and certificate programs, as well as meeting professionals preparing for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification exam. According to PCMA, the latest 16-chapter edition includes the most up-to-date information on:

• Current industry trends
• Strategic planning for meetings
• Budgeting and funding
• Marketing and promotion
• Technology
• Running and closing the meeting
• Industry trends on the horizon

As with previous versions, it also includes contributions from industry leaders, learner outcomes, key words, discussion questions, a glossary, and chapter summaries.

"PCMA is dedicated to keeping students, faculty, and meeting professionals current on industry standards and trends; continuing to invest in updating this valuable resource is part of PCMA's mission," PCMA President and CEO Deborah Sexton said in a statement. "Each chapter of this new edition aligns with the new Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) International Standards (CMP-IS) as defined by the Convention Industry Council (CIC) and includes updated sustainability [CSR] practices to emphasize its importance with planning today's meetings."

The new edition of "Professional Meeting Management" will be available on Jan. 5, 2015. However, PCMA currently is accepting pre-orders via its website.
