Northstar Travel Group today announced that it has acquired HotelsWorld, a group of four consecutive conferences held over three days for senior hotel executives in Australia and New Zealand.

The Sydney-based suite of conferences attracts more than 500 hospitality industry CEOs and senior executives from companies that either own or operate hotels and resorts, serviced apartments, and other alternative forms of guest accommodations in the region.

Going forward, HotelsWorld will operate as part of Northstar's Burba Hotel Network (BHN), the leading global producer of hotel investment conferences. Northstar Travel Group, the leading provider of information, media, events, marketing solutions, and technology to the global travel and meetings industry, acquired BHN in May. HotelsWorld founder and owner John Smith will remain involved in the production of the suite of shows, as will Ashurst, Australia's leading legal firm, which has co-hosted HotelsWorld since its inception and will continue to do so in association with BHN.

"The synergies between our existing portfolio of events in Asia and HotelsWorld are potentially enormous, and in combining efforts we'll finally be able to shine a proper spotlight on the opportunities in Australia and the Pacific," said BHN founder and president Jim Burba.

He added, "we have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with John and have great respect for his leadership position in the Australia and New Zealand hotel investment community."

Calling Northstar's purchase of HotelsWorld "an exciting development in the growth of the event," Smith said that the transaction "is a further indication of the growing importance of hotels and hospitality in this region. I am confident that its involvement will build on the momentum we have created and will take HotelsWorld to the next level."

Tom Kemp, the chairman and CEO of Northstar Travel Group, said that the "underlying growth of the Australian and New Zealand hotel, travel, and tourism business is a strong driver in making this strategic investment."

Adding HotelsWorld to BHN's portfolio of global hotel investment conferences is also, Kemp added, "an important step in building out the global leadership of BHN within the hotel investment industry."

In addition to HotelsWorld, Secaucus, NJ-based Northstar Travel Group -- the owner of Incentive -- oversees a portfolio of other hospitality-focused events including the following:

--ALIS, The Americas Lodging Investment Summit, which is the world's largest hotel investment conference
