Incentive planners seeking ways to enhance their programs now have a new tool at their disposal. The BthruB Incentive Program Playbook, a digital guide from rewards and recognition firm Incentive Solutions, offers an overview of how to design channel incentive programs, from setting overall goals to measuring results and creating a long-term plan.

The 42-page guide is organized into four sections: "Strategize" lays out how to set objectives for the program, establish a budget and identify how to select rewards. "Structure" looks at how to track and assess key performance indicators and selecting an incentive-program platform. "Manage" explores how to market a program and engage participants. The final section, "Growth," outlines long-term goals and ways to improve ROI and continuously improve the program.

"When modifying behavior, eventually you reach the point of diminishing returns," writes the guide's authors. "At this point, it's time to reinvest in your program and launch a new promotion. Maybe it's time to spice things up by adding an interactive leaderboard, or other gamification modules."

The guide's authors also explain what "BthruB" means in the title: "[F]or the most part, [businesses] aren't direct-selling to other businesses. They're selling through other businesses -- often in multistep supply chains -- and relying on those businesses to influence the end consumer in their favor."
