The "greening" of the incentives industry has been a key issue for years, and we’ve seen the results as paper catalogs give way to online catalogs and gift cards have gone virtual. Some companies, however, are taking their commitment to the environment further.

Rideau Recognition was awarded carbon neutral certification earlier this year after reducing its carbon footprint to net zero.  Rideau is the first multinational incentive company to secure this certification, a primary consideration for companies who are managing the climate change compliance of their supply chains and provider partners.

“Since environmental sustainability is such an important cornerstone of RBC’s strategy, we applaud efforts of valued members of our supply chain such as Rideau in accomplishing significant milestones in their own sustainability initiatives,” said Steve Richardson, manager of recognition programs for the Royal Bank of Canada.

Rideau worked with The CarbonNeutral Company  to measure and reduce its carbon footprint to net zero. All the emissions relating to Rideau, including energy consumption, waste and third party shipments, were quantified and then reduced through a combination of internal changes and carbon offsetting. This means that for every unavoidable tonne of carbon generated by Rideau’s operations, a tonne of carbon is prevented from entering the atmosphere by supporting the development of renewable energy and clean technology projects in Brazil, China, Thailand and Turkey.

Maritz has also stepped up its commitment to green practices: Over the past few years, Maritz has strived to reduce waste, water consumption, electricity and fuel, as well as a comprehensive recycling program. They work with clients to create green solutions and promote environmentally friendly practices. Maritz has even formed a “grassroots” Green Team to monitor and review their sustainability initiatives. At the local level,  Maritz partners with ReSource St. Louis to recycle paper products, light bulbs, batteries and metals and The Brickman Group to reduce onsite plastic, fuel, water and electricity usage. At a more global level, the company has stepped up its green travel options and meetings.  This page is protected by Copyright laws. Do Not Copy
