In partnership with San Diego State University (SDSU) and Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Event Model Generation has launched the meeting industry's first global certificate in event design, it announced this week.

Part of an international effort spearheaded by Event Model Generation to create a common visual language for events, the Event Design Certificate Program will be an immersive three-day training course teaching meeting professionals a systematic 10-step visual approach to event design. Program participants will learn skills enabling them to design events based on stakeholder needs and then prototype event designs using Event Model Generation's #EventCanvas (pictured), a strategic management template for developing new or documenting existing events and conference models.

The first certificate class will be held Aug. 17-19 at SDSU's campus in San Diego. All successful program participants will be granted 24 continuing education clock hours in "Domain G: Meeting & Event Design," as defined by the Convention Industry Council (CIC).

"SDSU believes in innovative and rigorous programs for event executives," said Carl H. Winston, director of SDSU's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. "We have collaborated with the creators of the #EventCanvas … previously and are delighted to partner with them to create the Event Design Certificate in collaboration with MPI."

Added Stephanie Arehart, senior director of professional development at MPI, "MPI is very excited to be involved in the launch of the Event Design Certificate Program with Event Model Generation and SDSU. We have identified this program as an excellent solution to provide career development opportunities to our members in the area of event design innovation."
