Site Canada was named Chapter of the Year at this year's Site International Conference 2012 in Beijing, China, thanks in part to its focus on member education and trade show efforts. In addition, the incentive travel association also named the winners of its annual Crystal Awards, which ranged from shark tagging in Hawaii to a CSR effort in Cape Town, South Africa.

Site Canada, which has been operating for more than 25 years, earned the Chapter of the Year award thanks partly to its work bolstering the industry through charity efforts, scholarships, and the group’s university education programs aimed at inspiring future corporate travel planners.

As the third largest Site chapter, it was also celebrated for serving such a diverse and expansive country. While the large size makes this difficult for the group to meet, the chapter has developed virtual chapter meetings that have allowed them to collaborate across six time zones.

“This innovation and commitment to a strategic plan that aligns Site Global’s Communication Platform and the chapter's own community is why Site is proud to recognize Site Canada as the 2012 Chapter of the Year,” Site International wrote in the statement announcing the award.

Four other Site chapters were recognized for their work in 2012 with Chapter Excellence Awards, determined through an application process in which project experts selected the strongest candidate in each category. In the Membership category, Site Southern California won. The Special Event recognition went to Site Finland, Leadership to Site Mexico, and Site Southeast USA won in the Education category.

In addition to the Chapter of the Year awards, Site also named its annual Crystal Award winners for outstanding incentive travel programs. Continuing its efforts of recent years to spotlight socially and environmentally responsible programs, with Aimia winning a Responsible Experiences award for a sales incentive program for Oracle that included a day where attendees helped researchers studying shark migratory and residency patterns to catch and tag a shark and release it back into the ocean.

A second Responsible Experiences award went to Somewhere in Africa for the program they developed for Australian cosmetics firm Nutrimetrics in which the company collected donations for the Khayelitsha Sewing Project, which taught local women in Cape Town (where the trip was held) how to sew.

Harith Productions and Ovation-Ireland won for their “Embrace the Emerald Isles” program, which included a hands-on cooking demonstration at the Ballyknocken House and Cookery School near Dublin, and an elaborate award ceremony in which the stage equipment was repurposed after the event into a children’s playground.

Winners also included AlliedPRA New York, which collaborated with W&O Event Management on a New York City program that included a helicopter transfer and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Broadway Spider-man musical; and Incentive Destinations Pvt. Ltd. for Delta Lloyd Life Insurance's reward trip to Nepal.
