This year will prove to be a big year for timepieces - literally. "Oversize cases are all the rage for both men and women," says Andrew Finn, vice president of corporate sales for Tourneau. A case in point is the Bulova Crystal Collection (style 97N101) women's watch, which enhances the "boyfriend" look with the brilliance of 121 hand-set Swarovski elements crystals. The oversize case is finished in rose gold and features day, date, and 24-hour subdials, a patterned silver-white dial, luminous hands, and water resistance up to 98 feet. $399,

When it comes to materials, ceramic is particularly popular for ladies this season, and diamond accents continue to be in demand, says James Keenan, senior vice president of special markets for Citizen. The Citizen Eco-Drive Ceramic Diamond Chronograph (style FB1230-50A) features an oversize, stainless-steel case, a one-second chronograph, an eight-diamond dial and a 24-diamond bezel, as well as lightweight white ceramic on the bezel and bracelet. It is water resistant up to 328 feet. $695, email: [email protected]

Also for ladies, Finn says, "we see the beginnings of a return to two-tone (steel and gold) styles, as well as all-gold and rose gold. Certainly, the rise in the price of gold has enhanced this trend." The new Tourneau Ladies Gold Tone Diamond Watch (style TLRB-M068) features a gold-tone case, with a white dial, date window, and diamonds at each hour marker. The watch features Swiss quartz movement and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. $625,

For men, "the trend continues to be black-on-black, which is both rugged and sophisticated," Keenan says. The Citizen Eco-Drive Nighthawk (CA0295-58E) exemplifies this "blackout" aesthetic with a black-ion-plated case, black band, 1/5-second chronograph, and a tachymeter. The flight-inspired Nighthawk is water resistant up to 656 feet. $450, email: [email protected]

Seiko's stunning Astron GPS Solar watch, hailed as the first global GPS solar watch, connects with four or more GPS satellites to pinpoint its position and identify the time zone and exact time, adjusting its hands accordingly. The tech-savvy timepiece also features a high-intensity titanium case and ceramic bezel, as well as a sleek titanium strap. $3,850 for the model pictured,

Meanwhile, the WatchGear by Tourneau Men's Rubber Strap Watch (style GRM-SB36) features a handsome stainless-steel case with black bezel ring, textured dial with date window, and soft black-rubber strap. The men's watch features Swiss quartz movement and is water resistant up to 330 feet. $200,

Mantelpiece clocks are also appropriate for the season, like this Allarie II (style B7661) clock from the Bulova Mantel Chimes Collection. Made of solid wood and wood veneer with a refreshing antique-white finish, the clock plays "Westminster," "Ave Maria," or "Bim-Bam" chimes on the hour. It features a nickel-finish bezel ring and pendulum. $160,
