Nikon got more than a little attention at CES earlier this month when it announced the KeyMission 360, a palm-sized action camera capable of shooting a full 360-degree picture in 4K ultra high definition video.

This is a new camera category for us," said Tom Myers, sales manager, special markets and government, for Nikon USA. "It's going to be a big deal."

The KeyMission 360 is waterproof to 100 feet and shockproof to 6.6 feet. Based on the big logo visible in product pictures, it seems likely it will have Wi-Fi connectivity when it is released this spring. A big start button is suitable for gloved hands. No other details of the KeyMission 360's internal specs are available yet, and no price has been announced.

A variety of mounts and accessories will be announced, added Myers, noting that it also has a standard tripod mount.

Speaking at the PPAI Expo's ".brand" pavilion in mid-January, Myers noted that the KeyMission 360's features are fit for extreme sports, but that's not all it will be good for.

"Imagine it on the table with a child's birthday cake," he says. "You can record all of the life memories."
