The Canon PowerShot N Facebook

Whether bringing the power of DSLRs (digital single-lens reflex cameras) to a lighter form, or adding the ability to connect directly to social media, the latest digital cameras bring more power and features in smaller packages than ever before.

Sony a7
Sony’s new a7 digital camera models are “full-frame” cameras, with image-capturing sensors that are the same size as 35-mm film. This size is substantially larger than a majority of DSLR models, and something only available in professional-level DSLR cameras, until now. Because this is a “mirrorless” camera, however, the body can be much smaller and lighter than a DSLR. It uses a miniature but high-resolution OLED video screen in the viewfinder. Other features include Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity for sharing images, and nine customizable buttons. The a7 uses full-size interchangeable lenses. The 24.3-megapixel Sony a7 will be sold with a 28-70mm F3.5 – F5.6 full-frame zoom lens for about $2,000. Sony also has the a7R, with a 36.3-megapixel sensor, for sale as a body, retailing for $2,300.

Fujifilm X-E2
Another mirrorless digital camera, Fujifilm’s X-E2 offers the company’s latest 16.3-megapixel sensor with a very fast 0.08-
second autofocus speed that is also accurate in low light. In high-speed continuous shooting mode, it can fire off seven frames per second. The interchangeable lens system also offers a variety of manual controls, and four customizable buttons, allowing users to adapt it to their own shooting style. It shoots full high-definition (HD) video and has a Wi-Fi button for easy transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. It comes with an XF 18mm-55mm zoom lens and is available in black or retro black-and-silver
finishes. $1,399.95.

Canon PowerShot N Facebook
Many new cameras make it possible to transmit photos directly to a smartphone or tablet, and from there onto social media. The Canon PowerShot N Facebook model does them one better, adding a Facebook Connect button that will directly transmit an image from your camera to your Facebook profile via Wi-Fi. The 12.1-megapixel camera features 8x optical zoom and a 28-mm wide-angle lens, as well as full HD video, Canon’s Intelligent Image Stabilization system, and a 2.8-inch tilting, touchscreen LCD. It is available in white for $299.99. www.usa.canon.com/corporategifts

Nikon 1 AW1
The new digital Nikon 1 AW1 is not only waterproof, shockproof, and freezeproof, but it also uses interchangeable lenses. Aside from its two weatherproof lenses — an 11-27.5-mm zoom lens and 10-mm wide-angle lens — it is also compatible with a wide range of regular NIKKOR lenses. The 14.2-megapixel camera’s many features include extremely quick autofocus, full HD video, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a wide variety of shooting modes, including three modes that are specifically designed for taking photos underwater. The Nikon 1 AW1 is available in black, white, and silver, and colored lens skins are also available. The camera retails for $799.95 with the zoom lens, or $999.95 with both weatherproof lenses.
