Pick-Your-Own Man Cave

The Bose Event Experience is the latest development in customizable gifting for incentive programs. Professional Bose Event staff travel on site to host customized experiences that match the event, attendees, and budget. The experience is interactive and attendees get to take home a gift of their choice.

At a recent convention, the Bose Event Experience team created several "man caves" in a ballroom complete with leather couches and flat-screen TVs. "This was an attendee draw. Everyone congregated here whenever they had free time," recalls St. Louis-based Patrick Corley, vice president of event experiences for Incentive Concepts, who is helping to pioneer the Bose Event Experience for MICE. "The last day, we asked each attendee what set-up they liked the best and where they would like their gift to be shipped." Corley says Incentive Concepts is operating four to eight such programs a month for the Bose Event Experience, as well as a Blue Jeans Bar, custom Nike fittings, and a soon-to-be-launched Canon experience. In other instances, Bose has created relaxation lounges and listening areas in hospitality suites. "This is a major element. The attendee experience is paramount," says Corley. "This is definitely not just a pick-a-gift program."

For another client, not only was there the Bose Event Experience for attendees but there were Nike fittings as well. "That's another real interactive experience," says Corley. "Attendees are fitted properly with tennis shoes that they then get to design and customize."

Carried Away

There is nothing better than an aspirational brand to motivate, and Tumi is one such brand. Mike Landry, Tumi's director of special markets, says there will be an increase of luggage "fittings" at corporate events and incentives. Although each fitting can be customized, it traditionally encompasses a Tumi representative having eight different styles of business cases on display. Incentive winners can choose the one they like best and what they would like monogrammed on the case. It is then delivered within 10 days.

Bulova has also gotten in on the customized gift-giving experience with its "Gift in Time" watch events. The company sets up a table and provides custom sizing if needed.

"Demand for luxury gifts and designer products is on the rise, and we work hard to source the best gifts and create the most  exciting experience for the event's mission and theme," says Brian A. Boucher, business manager, global event services for ChoiceGifts, which has created personalized gifting experiences that include  sunglasses from Ray-Ban and jewelry from Alex + Ani.
