Weather
If you visit in midsummer, you may wonder what possessed so many people to move to Austin. Temperatures regularly climb into the 100s F/37-40 C. Even worse, high humidity exacerbates the heat, and droughts can make rain a rare occurrence. If you have a choice about when to visit, make it October-April, when the weather is usually mild and pleasant. Even in the middle of winter, temperatures often rise into the 70s F/21-25 C, cooling to the high 40s F/9 C in the evenings.
On occasion, short-lived cold snaps drop the temperature below freezing (although rarely below 30 F/-1 C). At such times, ice is the greatest danger. Snow is rare. A great time to visit is spring (mid-March to mid-April), when wildflowers bloom throughout central Texas.
