The opening of the InterContinental New York Times Square featured  the cutting of an all-natural green vine instead of a ribbon, to celebrate the new property’s status as the largest hotel in New York to achieve LEED certification.

New York City Mayor Bloomberg  was on hand to oversee the proceedings, along with executives from Intercontinental Hotels Group and Tishman Hotel & Realty LP.  "The new Times Square Intercontinental - the largest new hotel to be built in New York City in nearly a decade - represents a huge vote of confidence in our city's future, and it proves once again that our growing tourism industry is one of the key forces powering our city through the national recession," said Mayor Bloomberg. "It's part of a major hotel boom that has brought New York City more than 8,000 new hotel rooms over the past two years. We are determined to meet our goal of attracting 50 million annual visitors by the year 2012, and by creating the conditions that help keep New York the most exciting city in the world, the private sector is continuing to invest in our future, even during these tough times."

The 607-room property is the largest new-build hotel to open in Manhattan since 2002. As one of the closest hotels to the Javits Convention Center, the property boasts 10 meeting rooms totaling 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.  Additionally, there are 25 flexible suites available that can be utilized as event space. “We are proud to welcome the InterContinental New York Times Square to IHG," said Jim Anhut, Chief Development Officer of IHG. "Located in the world's capital, the hotel will further the InterContinental brand presence in this highly strategic market and strengthen our representation in the U.S. and internationally."
