The Silversea Group today announced the purchase of Canodros S.A., an Ecuadorian tourism company operating in the Galapagos Islands. The Galapagos Explorer II, the outlet's all-suite vessel, which can accomodate up to 100 guests, will undergo refurbishment next September before it is rechristened and officially added to the Silverseas fleet.

Until that time, Galapagos Explorer II will continue its planned schedule of cruises and will continue to be operated by Canodros, which is based in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The 4077-ton Galapagos Explorer II has 50 spacious suites with ocean views, 24 of which include private balconies. Public spaces include a restaurant, piano bar, outdoor bar, and a marine observation deck.

This acquisition will expand the Silversea Expeditions brand. Its only existing expedition-class ship, Silver Explorer, is regularly deployed in the polar regions, so the addition of a second vessel offering year-round luxury cruises in the Galapagos archipelago will add to the line's capacity considerably.
