W Hotels and Intel have launched a contest inviting aspiring filmmakers to set their next film at a W property. The Four Stories Film Series, announced on August 9, asks entrants to submit original screenplays, and three winners will have their script developed by director Roman Coppola, as well as cast, and filmed at a W hotel.
Entrants can visit Intel.com/FourStories
to upload their original 10-minute screenplays anytime before August 30. The scripts are expected to be based on the theme of the highly mobile, 24/7 nature of travel, and will be set at a W hotel, with the Intel-inspired Ultrabook must play a key role in the film.
The three winners will be selected by a panel of industry judges, including Coppola; Michaelangelo L’Acqua, W Hotels global music director; Deborah Conrad, chief marketing officer at Intel; Eddy Moretti, executive producer and creative director at VICE; actors Michael Pitt, Chloe Sevigny, and PJ Ransome; screenwriter Jeff Baena; Blake Whitman, vice president of creative development at Vimeo; and William Morris Endeavor agent Danny Gabai.
Coppola, a prominent film and music video director and most recently the co-screenwriter of Moonrise Kingdom, will direct the fourth film. He will also enlist his production company, The Directors Bureau, along with notable cast and winning filmmakers, to travel to shoot the three winning scripts at W Hotel destinations. The glamorous backdrop is intended to be both a memorable setting for the film and advertisement for the property.
“I admire W Hotels and Intel for encouraging emerging artists by giving them this chance to introduce themselves,” said Coppola, in a statement. “To all those people thinking of participating, I hope that they take this opportunity to be bold, to push boundaries and to think of ideas which are totally unique to themselves. As Thomas Edison said: ‘Hell, there are no rules here — we’re trying to accomplish something.’”
The films will then be premiered at red carpet events at select W Hotels around the world later this fall, and be broadcast on The Ultrabook Experience website, whotels.com, W brand’s social media channels, and W Vision in-room entertainment channel.
Four Stories is the first of Intel’s Ultrabook Experience, a new marketing initiative where they partner with various brands, artists, designers, and entertainers that use the Ultrabook devices to create and develop their work. Additional projects and collaborations will be rolled out in the months ahead.
Beyond the Four Stories contest itself, Ultrabook design installations will be featured at W Hong Kong, W London – Leicester Square, W New York, W Paris – Opéra, W San Francisco and W Singapore, encouraging guests and locals to interact with the technology. Ultrabooks will also be integrated into W Hotels’ Whatever/Whenever concierge experience at all 42 properties worldwide, with the goal of demonstrating how technology and design can create memorable and emotional experiences.
