Incentive planners seeking ways to get more out of their gift card programs have a useful new tool at their disposal. A new white paper from Northstar Meetings Group (Incentive's parent organization) and sponsored by Hawk Incentives, a Blackhawk Network company, explores the benefits of gift cards and how to make the most of them in an incentive program.

Titled "The Guide to Effective Reward Card Programs," the report draws on original research from Incentive as well as industry organizations such as the Incentive Gift Card Council (IGCC) and Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) to lay out seven overarching strategies for getting the most out of a reward card program.

These tips include "Conduct an Award Audit," i.e. review your program, its cost and the impact it is having -- determining if more reward choices could be more effective at motivating participants. "Take Advantage of Brand Identity" is another point made in the report, emphasizing the importance of brand in creating impact with a gift card. Questions related to demographics, the pros and cons of both digital and physical cards, and the potential benefits of combining multiple programs are all examined.

"Reward card programs are easy to create, implement, and monitor," states the report. "That's why they're efficient tools for recognizing achievement for any audience - if the program is offering the right rewards."
